As the year turned anew, I decided that the least I could do for my health was stop eating so much chocolate. I don't know when it was that I decided that I had special permission to eat as much of the stuff as I wanted, but somewhere along the way I decided that I did.
My rippling great tummy had other ideas.
Anyway, I faithfully cut back on the brown stuff and... whatyaknow, I'm now addicted to chips.
I love how they crack in your mouth like a release valve. Crack, crunch, crunch, crunch, crack, crunch, crunch... you have to keep eating them to get that delicious first crack from a fresh new chip. And don't get me started on the ones that are neatly folded over, waiting for eager teeth to snap them - crack, crack!
The worst news is that before cutting back on the chocolate, I wasn't even sure I liked chips. I'm more of a chocolate, cheese, butter kind of girl. Now look at me, I'm so into them I'm like the chip poet.
It's just no good. I don't know how I can make my head speak more forcefully to my taste buds, but they are like my children and don't listen to a word I tell them. Eat the chocolate and you'll get fat - check. Eat the chips and you'll stay fat - check.
It's too hard to think about. I'm off to find the chip packet...
What's your latest food vice?

Hot chips with chicken salt......there is nothing better in this world!!!!
I've been eating boringly well... I could go a chip or ten right about now though!
Have you tried the chip/chocolate combo (not to be confused with choc chips)??
It's best if it's plain good quality chocolate eaten in the same mouthful as some nice, crunchy salty fresh crisps.
Hubby thinks it's foul - he's missing out.
Mmmm.
My mouth is watering.
:-) x
Xmas has not been kind to me ... not that I'm game to step on the dreaded scales, but my Jeans are painting a vivid picture. Ice cold beers at the end of too many post-40 degree days my greatest vice I' m afraid.
Anything sweet I generally have trouble staying away from! Chips I can usually avoid - as long as they're not in the house in the first place...
I just gave up Coke Zero for 2013 without any new vices...unless you count the Vietnamese Iced Coffee icecream that I have discovered which contains 1 and 1/2 tins of condensed milk...
For me it's all about the texture too - (you know you get the same kind of snap with After Eight mints especially if you keep them in the fridge). This Christmas I found a new addiction, dry roasted peanuts, lovely, crunchy, salty and I kid myself, slightly healthier than chocolate ...
thanks to the over abundance we got gifted for christmas, i'm back on the chocolate bandwagon. trying to limit myself to a little bit at a time...
it's not going well!
i'm exactly the same with chips though, i never keep them in the house any more. they're just too crispy and delicious!
Salt and vinegar chips are the best!
I cannot open a packet without eating the entire thing.
Nothing says holidays to me like a cold beer and some salt and vinegar chips.
And now that holidays are over, I am having a hard time breaking the habit!
Considering Heath is not a fan of chocolate or cheese(breastfeeding. If I have even a crumb of either of those he is up screaming for 3 days.) I'm not left with much these days. I find I'm pretty good when I'm breastfeeding bevcause I don't want them drinking any crap that I ate so I guess it's Carman's Classic Muesli bars for me. Boring, I know!
Crack up, love your honesty and we all need our vices...x
This makes me giggle...are we the same person?
Ha! I do the exact same thing. Don't worry, we'll quit chips some other time.
I'm more of a sweet tooth and chips make me too thirsty. But funnily enough I don't crave chocolate in the summer...good for me!
I like chips but I'm not normally nuts about them...until last week, when I inhaled a large packet to myself! I put it down to sweating so much in this heatwave, obviously my body was crying out for salt.
xx
(the folded over ones are my fave too)
No advice sorry. I'm the same. My head is constantly telling me one thing while my hand is reaching for the chip/chocolate whatever packet. Anything will do. I have no will power. I simply can't have anything of the sort in the house.
xo
Oh the neatly folded over ones are my favourite, back in school we used to refer to those as 'wish chips'... take a bite, make a wish.
I am a chippy addict too. I find the only way to avoid them is to not buy them. Too too tempting.
I had to give up chips, the plain thin cut ones were my biggest vice. I was eating way too many, and I wasn't worried about weight so much as the salt!
Man, it was harder than quitting smoking. Not even kidding.
ohhh,i would rather have crisps any day over chocolate...but I try not to buy them EVER as they would all be gone without a moments hesitation.popcorn is my thing...i kid myself that it is MUCH healthier for a bad choice!
I'm exactly the same! I gave up sugar quite a few months ago .... and suddenly remembered just how much I love salt. Kellie xx
Ha! I gave up sugar last year and finally have control over my dark chocolate addiction. But it took ages... Now when I'm craving sugar or salt, I eat nuts (cashews, roasted almonds and macadamias are my favourite!). But trouble strikes if we run out of nuts... xx
Sadly I'm a chip monster too ... Imagine how much trouble you'd be in with a packet of Royce's chocolate covered potato chips ...

I am trying very hard to get healthier this year. I am all about the baking and that's really not good for me so I'll be giving more of it away I think.
There is just no substitute for chocolate but I find plain rice crackers still give me that chippy salty crunch!
K xx
Haha, sounds like me. I'm usually a sweet tooth but everyone now and then I get my savoury on with an entire monster-sized packet of chips. Nothing fancy, just ye olde plain-flavoured chips will do.
Here's one out of nowhere: my latest craving is fairy bread. No idea where it came from but it's here to stay. Hoping it disappears when bub is born.
I can so relate! Traditionally I'm a sweet rather than savoury kind of girl. But, recently I've been chowing down on chips (plain) dipped in hommus. OMG, yum!
Warm chrissy cake with custard is my current one! I'm sure, deep down, part of me knew that 3 huge cakes were more than enough for our families at Christmas...and that we would indeed get to eat cake for most of Jan and Feb! Mmmmmmm...but I do love a good crunchy chip too. I never buy them though, I never think to. I just make a piglet of myself at other people's homes when they put chips out. x
LOL, Maxabella. Yes, I totally get how addictive chips are. If they lived in our house, they would be inside my mouth by the end of the day....
Ronnie xo
Since having my youngest I have developed a very sweet tooth - Whitakers Caramel Chocolate to be exact! I used to eat it while breastfeeding him - and I used to find bits of choc stuck in his hair!
Ok, so here's a couple of my weird vices. Twisties with lemonade- in the same mouthful. I know. And to make your chippies healthier, in the summer I like to eat them with grapes. Yep, in the same mouthful. Everybody thinks I'm gross. Until they try it...
OH YUM! Salty potato chips ARE the best. I think it's a summer thing for me too, eating chips that is! :)
Love this. Yes, the crack and the snap are awesome. Just on Thursday night, I realised that I have a thing for wholewheat chips. You know, Corn Chips, Grain Waves... they do me every time. Partly because I think they're healthy, but also because they stop that salty desire for other stuff. And it's much more satisfying than chocolate! Oh, we are our own worst enemies! x
