Things I learned this week including that I'm happiest when I'm being creative

Happy Friyay!

As I write this I am looking out my hotel window at the sweep that is Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Queensland. Am I on holidays again, you ask? No I am not.

I am sporting a media pass and covering the V8 Supercars race for my work. Oh, the glamour.

As I race about (pun!) dodging grid girls (fun!), I had ample time to reflect on what I learned during the week that was...

1. A friend asked me on Monday, "Besides your family, what makes you happiest?" and without hesitation I responded that time stands still for me when I'm writing, making and generally being creative. Wherever I am, whatever I'm doing, I would much rather be making something.

2. A 'flimsy' is a quilt top before the batting and backing have been added (thank you Sue at Charlotte's Cottage!)

3. Whenever you see a large group of idle teenagers, one will be plucking away at a guitar. It's best to vacate before they launch into a rendition of Stairway to Heaven because, believe me, it will happen and it will not be pretty.

4. Geocaching is a high-tech version of a scavenger hunt using GPS. There are hunts already preset that you can download here -  it really adds that extra something to a bushwalk. Check out the fabulous Geocache bag and goodies that Emily made over at her fabulous Saltwater Kids site.

5. I knew this already, but bloggers really do seem to be the nicest bunch of people on the planet. What is it about blogging that brings out the best in people? The delicious comments I received on the mermaid party post made the party even better. Generous, warm, inviting and supportive... I don't think the critics know what they're talking about!!

How about you? Did you learn anything new to share this week?

Oh yes, i had the final trimming to the realisation that you can't compete with your husband. By that i mean, you can't be competitive, i do this, you do this etc. Once you're totally comfortable in your own skin, as a mother, wife, person, your marriage can just flourish. I've been tinkering on this for about the last 10 years of our marriage, really getting it - but it's just so gorgeous when there is such harmony in your marriage, parenting, dealing with in-laws, school etc, i love him even more. We've always had a very happy, fun, loving marriage but it's just at that next level of serenity now.
FYI i used to deal with AVESCO in my old Oil Industry days, not one for motor sport but it was always fun to be in the VIP tent at the start/ finish line nonetheless. Everyone assumed my husband was the oil barron, aha, no, 'twas me. Not that it made any difference, he's still far more interesting & being a soldier & all, the CEOs would all love him. My trophy husband!! He didn't mind that often he'd have to 'eat' with the grid girls, oh, poor thing!! Love Posie

I learned that our pillows are probably making me sick. Thanks Tontine! No really - thanks! I had trouble convincing Mr K that we needed to replace them and now you have given me the dubious research with which to berate him constantly until we get new pillows. Next up - a new mattress!

I agree, bloggers are amazing & being part of the blogging community is awesome! This week I learned, even though I kind of knew already but it was reinforced this week, that my little family live in the most incredible town of beautiful generous & kind people. When tradgedy strikes, as it did to a local family recently, everyone is there to help & offer support, no matter how great or small..it is very humbling...I also learned that a women are absolutely, without a doubt the strongest creatures on this earth! What a woman can endure is mind blowing..

V8 Supercars hey? Hmm, if you can escape down to Kirra beach for fish and chips, the trip might just be worthwhile ;-)

I must confess that I haven't learnt a whole lot this week, but I have been reminded and consistently amazed at how fast our children grow and learn.

I learned that sometimes you just have to say what the hell and do it anyway.

often reader - never commented. Thank you for this blog because1. you are an amazing writer, 2. I learn something new every week, so I feel as though it is an "improving" sort of blog (in the old english meaning of it), 3. It is just beautiful and imaginative and fantastic and all kinds of wonderful and almost always makes me smile, which is rare right now.
Thank you for sharing so much of you and your world with us.
(apologies for odd sound of comment - sleep deprived- am not stalkery, just prone to sudden outpourings of emotion when exhausted- as I am today)

I learnt that you can be absent from blogging for a few days and your (online) world will not disappear!

But it is nice to be back, because as you say, bloggers are just so nice.

Glad you enjoyed the comments on your mermaid party post...it really looked like a lovely little party. You have inspired me to make more of an effort with the monkeys' parties...We have a 1st bday and a 3rd bday coming up!

You lucky duck...hanging out with the rev-heads and at bris-vegas!!!!
I learnt that according to my husband when I'm sick I talk like our toddler, not sure if she learnt to sound like me or vice versa :)
Know what you mean about how creativity, just finished attaching some nice stripy red ribbon to a cheap lampshade from Target and I feel so pleased with myself...hopefully Miss 10 will like my attempt at decorating too!!
As for bloggers being special, I agree...you are a great example, your comments on my blog make my day (as do you fab sister's).

What a great mixture of things you learnt this week.

I learnt that sometimes you need to listen to your body and it speaks to you and get some sleep even if it means less blogging time.

I think I am worried that weeks are going by and I am not learning anything, most days I am too busy, tired, etc to remember it all!

I totally agree about bloggers. I am getting ready to quit my day job and have a go at running {and profiting from} my business FT and so many in the blogging community are SO supportive.

It is great to have a network of people who are interested in seeing you succeed.

I learned that I can solo-parent for a whole freaking week. (My husband had to go out of town for work unexpectedly.) And I learned that I could do it without chocolate (but only because I was too busy and/or exhausted to go to the store and buy any). =>

PS: I've always wanted to try geocaching!

I'm happiest when I lose myself in the written word as well - bliss!

I know I must have learnt something new but just can't think of anything at the moment. But I know often things are just confirmed and reinforced. I am happiest when I am creating/making, my family and I come first if we are happy then everything comes easy. Charmaine

Well...we were in Broadbeach just recently and great location. However, I imagine it's a bit noisier around there at the mo with the cars. ;)
