♥ Jotting it all down

I need to leave the sadness that has settled over me since writing the post last night (please read if you have a couple of minutes, it would mean a lot to me). A complete change of feeling is needed to get me back on track. I hope that's not disrespectful.

After the fun of sharing Word Verification moments last week, I noticed a pattern in the (witty, engaging, lovely, thank you) comments I received.

So many of us notice things, don't write them down and then quickly they are forgotten.

I'm a jotter. You will have noticed this from my Friday posts. I love to write down everything. Everything I learn, everything I think is funny, everything that's actually funny, everything that's odd. Everything.

It's a habit I picked up working in Advertising. When I was a little Junior Burger, I worked for one of Sydney's most creative agencies. I learned a thing or two from those Big Macs, believe me, and not just about dancing in the white stuff (it was the nineties, after all). The best thing I learned was 'jot it down'. All the Creatives do it. They carry wanky little Moleskins around and write down everything that takes their fancy.

I do the same. Only I carry a wanky little whatever-was-free-on-the-cover-of-InsideOut-magazine. It's amazing what a fun and interesting 'journal' results from all this jotting. In amongst the doodles and Shopping and To Do Lists is a record of the unique, the weird, the odd and the marvellous. I've been doing it so long that these days, I sort of feel naked without a pen.

Do you do it too? What sorts of things do you jot down?

I have to write it down or would just forget it until it was too late! I need a book. Mine are on scraps of paper that float around the house, on the pinboard or on the fridge.... in spots that remind me!

I am a selective jotter. I jot down notes for work to check at the end of the night. I intend to jot for home, but tend to forget. I do have a little note book in my handbag and try to make sure regularly.

I do love a good Inside Out notebook. I need little notebooks everywhere, otherwise I find myself trying to jot down info on receipts - not easy to find the space and that shiny paper's damned difficult to write on!

I am a jotter. Not in the least bit a creative type, but I jot all the time. In my things to do books. Which I posted about today, funnily enough.

Same wavelength, much?

I write down everything everywhere. But mostly on my blog these days. Thank heavens for one central spot. I read last night's post. Did not comment as I felt you'd spoken for all of us. x

I was. I'm not so much now, post kids and all, it's hard to get to jot and remember what you're trying to jot over them trying to ask/tell/get you to do something. I do yearn for it quite a bit lately. I've just recently pushed myself into expressing with pictures, and a friend made me an art journal, which i'm not artistic at all, but using pictures to express a feeling, a notion, anything, i'm finding that very therapudic, and sort of...difficult to share my pictures, because they are much more personal that the viewer realises.

Great tip! I have not been doing it... You tend to forget the little things!

I carry 3 notebooks in my handbag at the moment and one is a wanky moleskin variety! I jot everything on a daily basis. Then I also have my journal (on paper of course, haven't worked up the courage to tackle the on-line version yet) and then I have my 'Jake' journal and my 'ella' journal....and I wonder why i have no time in my life! x

Hi, I have just stumbled across your blog and am really enjoying it!
I read your last post... I didn't see it but it sounds horrendous! Those poor babies...
As for jotting, well I'm a wishfull jotter.. I would like to remember to write things down, or remember where I put my notebook at the very least!

I have all the intentions of being a jotter and spend quite a bit of money on glorious notebooks, floral patterns and all - but never keep it up. I wish I did, but luckily I have a good memory for the little things so that helps! xx

Just read last night's post. What a beautiful person you are.

I should jot down more. For sure. I have ideas for blog posts all the time and I convince myself I'll remember what they are and then a couple of days later...gone. Poof!

Maybe I should buy one of those moleskins too. Or not. Probably a spiral Notebook from Coles will do the trick. ;)

Only lists for me. Lists that never get a look in because I forget about them after I write them. I will be relying on everybody else when I am old to remind me of my life :)

I'm definitely a jotter. A jotter for shopping lists and to do lists, sometimes goals but I forget to jot those moments down, the fun things to remember for later. I should try and keep a record of everyday things in one of my many little notebooks that I collect.(lol)

I should take a leaf out of your book and start jotting things down.....It would make life so much easier!

Your notebook is cute!

I'm a jotterer too. Couldn't live without my moleskin notebook and diary. They are little luxuries I would pick over new clothes. Sad I know. We don't have the show in the UK you referred to in your last post but I'm going to go look it up as I'm sure it will be online. Thanks for the info.

I worked in advertising too and had notebooks upon notebooks of random things to remember and do. It never leaves me and now I keep a notebook in my handbag (for when I think of good gift ideas for people) plus one next to my bed and one in my kitchen.

I'm a to-do list kinda gal cos I work in events but I would love to get in the habit of a proper notebook to keep random thoughts in. It would be fascinating to look back at too.
